How To Get Creative Using Your Linen, Wood, Burlap And More

Posted by Olivia Sum on

In fashion, linen is used a lot in hot weather as the fibre is very absorbent and so it keeps you cool and fresh. Wood has been used as both fuel and a construction material for thousands of years. And lastly burlap is an American term in the UK we call it hessian, it is a fabric made from skin of the jute plant.  All sorts of durable items such as sacks, twine, curtains carpets can be made using this material. If you`re feeling creative have a look at digitalpaper.shop  for these materials. Here are some ideas of what to do with them:

How To Make A Fabulous Linen Bunting Advent Calendar

You will need:

  1. Linen
  2. Scissors
  3. Cotton
  4. Needle
  5. Hanging Hooks

Firstly go to digitalpaper.shop to choose your different designs of linen. Here they have used Christmassy greens and red

Next cut your bunting into your desired shape, you could choose to do traditional triangle shapes however in this example rectangle shapes have been used with pockets sewn on to the bottom half of the rectangle.

After you have sewn each individual pocket together you will need to sew a long thin piece of linen right across the top of the bunting to hold it all together.

Lastly sew your advent calendar numbers onto your bunting and hang with the hanging hooks. I think you will be pleased with the end result.

Framed Pictures Using Burlap and Wood

Christmas is a happy time of year for most, a time when we get together with our families and enjoy all things festive. However for some Christmas may be a lonely time of year if they haven`t got family around to support them. This gift idea is a sure way to put a smile on someone`s face and remind them wherever they are that they do have family thinking of them.

You can pick up a basic wooden picture frame from many stores but to add that extra bit of thought why not add your own special touch with the use of burlap.  Simply cut your burlap into shape around the frame then use a suitable adhesive to glue it together. hen you can add your family pictures and send to your loved ones this Christmas. Here is an example of one fabulous frame:

Upholstering Furniture With Linen, Wood, Burlap And More

It`s the little final touches that really make a difference when it comes to decorating. To leave an airy refreshed feeling to your furniture there are many things you can do. Why not try re-upholstering an old chair with the use of some burlap. Simply remove your old seat cover and cut your new piece of burlap to size. Next with the use of a nail gun put nails into the seat to hold the wood and the material together. This effect can be used on other items of furniture also.

I hope this has given you a few ideas to get busy this holiday season.
